MPs and key players in the construction industry are to begin month-long inquiry into sustainable construction, including the government’s flagship energy efficiency initiative, the Green Deal.
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment (APPGEBE), under the secretariat of the Construction Industry Council, will begin taking evidence for a wide reaching Commission of Inquiry looking at best practice, challenges and barriers to sustainable construction and the Green Deal.
As buildings account for almost half of carbon emissions, the UK has introduced a raft of new legislation designed to improve sustainability in the built environment including the Code for Sustainable Homes, tighter building regulations and the Green Deal.
A report is expected to be published later in the summer and will be the second report from the APPGEBE. Last year it published A better deal for public building, which set out a number of measures for improving construction procurement.
