Apprenticeships at BGES Group

At BGES, we’re committed to tackling the engineering industry skills gap and championing the next generation of great engineers through our apprenticeships graduates

Our people are what make us great, so find out more about what apprenticeships at BGES Group can offer you. We’re passionate about supporting our team members to reach their potential!

For anyone considering working in electrical engineering, we offer a variety of apprenticeships including the Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Level 4 apprenticeship and a 4 year Electrotechnical Engineering Apprenticeship, each providing a fantastic start to your future career. We’ve spoken to two of our apprentices, Tom and Alex, to hear their thoughts on what’s involved, and why it’s a route worth considering…

Our current apprentices are working towards a Level 3 electrotechnical qualification; a four-year course which gives them the skills and knowledge they need to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial and commercial environments. Most of the time is spent training ‘on the job’ with BGES, but there is also time spent at college for theory and practical study. Here‘s what they had to say…

For new apprentice Tom, the ‘on the job’ aspect of an apprenticeship is very appealing. “I was keen to start work as soon as I’d finished school, so, I applied to BGES Group just after I’d finished my studies. My dad is an electrician and I have family in the BMS industry – so I already knew it was a good career path with lots of opportunities.”

Alex: I did four 2-week stints at college; the rest of the
time was with BGES. You do theory and practical exams too. BGES have been great, you get involved from day one and you’re not just making cups of tea! I started in the workshop, building control panels – then early on I was given the opportunity to go to site and do the installations. As with all apprenticeships at BGES Group I was assigned a “mate”, Rich, who was great – but I’ve worked with others too.

Post-apprenticeship, there is a clear route to progression at BGES Group and the training never stops. We continually invest in and develop our staff including Leadership and Management training, technical and product training, H&S and skills training, to name a few.

We’re committed to nurturing our staff at every stage of their career, and we have an open culture here where potential is recognised, voices are heard, and people are given opportunities to thrive

Well, we believe our apprenticeship scheme is the best in the business. But don’t just take our word for it – here is the view from Greg at our learning partner JTL:

“I think BGES Group are one of the best companies to do an apprenticeship with, in terms of the variety of work and support they give their learners. All the recent apprenticeship graduates from BGES Group have been exceptional. They were very impressive and wanted to learn – but it’s also down to the quality of the apprenticeship at BGES, the opportunities given and the support.”
