BGES Group has been officially recognised for its commitment to defence personnel and their families.
The company has been granted a Bronze Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for promoting an armed-forces friendly approach to doing business. This includes a recruitment policy which actively encourages applications from reservists and veterans.
The award also recognises BGES Group’s pledge to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant, a public promise that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated with fairness and respect. Thousands of organisations and local authorities in the UK have signed the covenant to date.
Career opportunities for veterans
BGES Group champions forces veterans in several ways, including recognising military skills and qualifications in the recruitment process, and publicly promoting the benefits of hiring ex-forces personnel.
The company delivers a wide range of building technologies and solutions, including BMS and smart remote energy management. It believes that the technical and personal skills gained in the forces are an excellent fit for a career in the industry and encourages applications from people with a military background.
Current job vacancies are advertised on the BGES Group website, but the company welcomes speculative applications too. BGES Group also runs a high-quality apprenticeship scheme, a route which may be suitable for veterans seeking a career change.
Forces veterans within BGES Group include its Managing Director, Gareth Barber, who served in the British Army’s Corp of Royal Engineers, and Lewis Locke, who leads BGES Group’s London office and formerly served in the Royal Navy.
Gareth Barber says, “We’re very proud of our ERS Bronze Award, which recognises the work we’re doing to support defence personnel and their families. We all owe a debt of gratitude to our ex-forces men and women, and I’m pleased more businesses are realising the breadth of skills and experiences that veterans bring to the civilian workplace. We hope that our work will encourage other businesses to become forces-friendly employers, too.”
