BGES welcomes £1bn funding for public sector energy efficiency

The new Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme opened this week, to supply funding for public sector energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures in public sector buildings. The grant funding, which will be delivered by Salix, allows public sector bodies to apply for a grant to finance up to 100% of the costs of capital energy-saving projects in non-domestic buildings.

Technologies that are eligible for funding include building energy management systems (BEMS), heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) controls, and LED lighting. The scheme is open to public sector bodies including central government departments, emergency services, further and higher education institutions, local authorities, schools, NHS Trusts and non-departmental public bodies. A Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund is also available – which provides grants to help public sector bodies to source specialist advice to identify carbon reduction projects – before preparing robust applications to the Grant Scheme.

Applications for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme opened on 30 September, and for most organisations the closing date is Monday 11 January 2021. Public sector bodies that require funding to be transferred between government departments at Supplementary Estimates have until 9 November 2020 to apply.

BGES has helped many public sector organisations reduce their carbon footprint through efficient building technology. Get in touch if you’d like to learn more about the grant funding, and how we can help.
